Chapter 8 — Tools and Accessories

This chapter provides a comprehensive reference for the tools, accessories, and consumables required for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of surface water monitoring stations. It includes a complete accessories list with specifications, quantities, and sourcing guidance, as well as a recommended tool kit for field technicians.

8.1 Accessories List

The accessories list below covers all hardware items required for a standard Type B cabinet station installation. Quantities are given per station and may need to be adjusted based on the specific site conditions, cable run lengths, and number of sensors. The image below provides a visual reference for all 16 standard accessories.

8.2 Recommended Field Tool Kit

The field tool kit is the set of tools that a technician must carry to perform installation, commissioning, routine maintenance, and emergency troubleshooting at a monitoring station. The kit is organized into five functional categories: electrical tools, mechanical tools, measurement instruments, communications tools, and safety equipment.

Category Tool Specification Purpose
Electrical Digital multimeter True RMS, CAT III 600 V, with temperature probe Voltage, current, resistance, continuity testing
Electrical RS485 bus analyzer Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP, USB powered Modbus communication diagnostics
Electrical Insulation resistance tester 500/1000 VDC, 0.1 MOhm to 2 GOhm Cable insulation testing before energization
Electrical RJ45 crimp tool and cable tester Cat5e/Cat6 compatible Ethernet cable termination and testing
Mechanical Torque screwdriver set 0.1-5 Nm, Phillips and flat heads Terminal block and connector tightening to spec
Mechanical Adjustable spanner and hex key set Metric and imperial Mounting bracket and sensor installation
Measurement Portable water quality meter pH, DO, EC, temperature; NIST-traceable calibration Field verification of sensor readings
Measurement Turbidity standard kit 0, 100, 1000 NTU NIST-traceable standards Turbidity sensor calibration and verification
Communications Laptop with configuration software Windows 10/11, with RTU and gateway config tools Device configuration, firmware update, diagnostics
